Things have changed and I need your opinion

I've been a bit disconnected lately and I apologize for that. To say that I'm spread thin would be a relative understatement. I'm really trying to stay on top of everything but not always doing the best job. Not only does that present itself here but also in my daily life.   I want to make a quick announcement before I head off to bed.  Some of you have reached out because comments you've left here have been disappearing. I cannot for the life of me, figure out what's going on.  Here's the facts: Comments made are disappearing after being submitted They are not caught in spam filter They are not being deleted or moderated in any way Comments show in the recent comments widget I receive email notifications of…

Ferrets – Ferrets – Ferrets

I keep getting requests to see some recent pictures of the ferrets.  We have three ferrets and they have become a very positive influence on our kids. I know that sounds weird but let me explain.  I guess the easiest way to sum things up is that the ferrets are like service animals and they provide comfort to the boys. They are truly amazing creatures and we love them dearly... ☺

How #Autism and sensory issues impact our every morning (video entry)

https://youtu.be/NcnyE6UYsa0 This morning really sucked. It was a sensory morning for Emmett and it was a nightmare for the rest of us who lived through the 90 minutes of screaming it took to get him both ready and off to school. It was this bad and he really, really wanted to go to school. I can't imagine what it would be like if he didn't... I did a video entry on the way home from dropping the boys of at school.  Sometimes it's better to speak directly to my audience in order to more accurately convey my message...

It was a seriously rough morning

Elliott wasn't easy to work with this morning. In fact, he didn't even want to go to school today and that's not like him. Emmett was wound pretty tight but was otherwise cooperative.  It took a great deal of time and effort just to get Elliot out of bed. It took even more of both of those things, with the addition of a great deal of patience, just to get him dressed and out the door.  We made it to school slightly late but it wasn't too bad.  Most mornings can't ever be described as easy and today is no exception to that rule. I don't know what got into Elliott but he lost some screen time this after as a result.  Hopefully, the school will be returning my kids…

We have an insanely busy week planned

The boys only have three days of school this week before Christmas break begins. Lizze and I have to finish up some last minute shopping but upon further review, we don't actually have that much left. We have quite a bit going in this week as well.  The boys have therapy. We have family therapy and marriage counseling as well. We have the boys Christmas program at school. Elliott has the dentist and Lizze has a doctor's appointment also.  We also have our rescheduled Vivint installation as well because the tech became ill last week and wasn't able to make it out here. As Christmas gets closer and closer, the boys become more and more anxious. This is a really difficult time for them because the anticipation and excitement is…

#Autism Parenting Victory: Everyone is asleep in their own beds

The boys went to bed without much trouble. We welcomed bedtime because the boys were more than a handful since they came home. We tried to have a calm night but that didn't seem to work. Thankfully, they are all sleeping now and doing so in their own beds. Awesome sauce.... ☺  Lizze and I started watching The OA on Netflix. That's a crazy new series that's part mind fuck and part fascinating enough that you have to keep going.  I think we're gonna try to get to bed early tonight because it's been a long day and we have a busy week ahead of us.

Our kids have returned but how are they doing?

The boys have been home for a little while now and seem to have settled back into their routine. For the most part, everyone's in a good mood but some of us are pushing buttons.  By some of us I'm referring to Elliott.   I think part of the problem is that he's overstimulated and what we are seeing is very much a kid with ADHD, Autism and almost no impulse control. This isn't unheard of after a visit to his grandparents or anyone else for that matter and it has nothing to do with them. It's just sorta par for the course with kids like mine.   Emmett's been doing pretty well and so has Gavin. Although truthfully, Gavin's been talking nonstop and OMG is that exhausting already.  While…
