Spent time with family today

We had a nice time with my in-laws today for New Year's dinner.  Everyone behaved and dinner was really good.  I'm pretty sure that I'm still well under my calorie goal for today and that feels awesome. I had a tiny scoop of ice cream for dessert and that was it.  ☺ My goal is to get some time on the treadmill tomorrow and keep moving forward with my fitness goals.

We spent the afternoon in the gorgeous weather

Elliott was really upset when Emmett went with grandma and he had to wait until tomorrow.  If there's one thing that many kids on the Autism Spectrum struggle with, it's waiting.   I spent some time this afternoon resting cause I wasn't feeling well. It came out of nowhere but was gone as fast as it arrived.   Elliott was really struggling and asked if we could go hunt Pokémon at the garden center. I wasn't feeling a lot like walking around at the park but it was what I could do to comfort him and it worked.   All four of us ended up going and while we weren't there all day long, it was still nice to get out and enjoy the weather.   I took lots nature…

Check out our after school adventure

The weather was beautiful today.  The sun was out and the temperature was in the high 50's, which is still chilly but the sun makes it feel warmer. I took a nap in the morning because of the lack of sleep the night before.  After that I got some work done and did some partnership building.  I even squeezed in some desperately needed server maintenance. Gavin and I decided it would be a great day for a walk, assuming we could get his brothers to cooperate. We picked up the boys and while they didn't want to walk the track, they did want to go on a hike.  That's exactly what we did.  We went on a 36-minute long hike through the woods at Monument Park.  We took some paths…

AWESOME NEWS: I feel like a pretty awesome Dad tonight

It's not very often that I can say this but today proved to be pretty awesome.  The boys and I had an amazing time this afternoon with my Mom.. ☺ We spent the morning at home and taking care of a couple errands that needed to be done.  The boys did great and I didn't have anything more than a few hiccups to deal with along the way. Emmett was running a fever again but was otherwise asymptomatic, so we decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and spend some time together outside exploring.. Rather than just going down the street to the local park, we picked up my Mom and headed to Quail Hallow State Park in Hartville, Ohio.  You can check out all the pictures above and…

#Autism Parenting: Fighting holiday fallout with family time

The days after a holiday can be tough for Autism family.  My family is not an exception to that rule.  In fact, I feel as though we are the poster child for after holiday fallout. Anyway, all of the boys were having a day filled with post-Easter fallout and while I was personally doing much better today, I couldn't allow things to pull me back under the weight of the previous days stress. The boys really enjoyed the hike from Saturday and it was something they wanted to do again. I called my Mom to see if she'd like to join us and before I knew it, we were on our way to the park and beginning yet another hike. Unfortunately, the weather was far less pleasant this time around…

Family Time: I took the boys on an awesome hike today (pt2 with pictures)

In this 2nd half of my post, I'll share some of the interesting and scary a things that took place during the second half of our hike. To see the original post, click here. This hike took us down part of the red track, along the train tracks, across 3 bridges, along side the Pro Football Hall of Fame and through a heavily wooded area where most of our hiking took place. We ended up stopping a couple of times for short breaks but these guys did the entire hike without any help. During our time in the woods, we had a really close encounter with 2 deer.  They walked right by us and let us get a really close look at them.  We were able to watch them for…

Family Time: I took the boys on an awesome hike today (pt1 with pictures)

Click here for part 2 Being an Autism parent isn't easy.  I'm pretty sure I've covered that many times already but in case you missed all those posts, Autism parenting isn't easy.  Great, now we're all on the same page, we can move forward.  ☺ I've learned over the years that while I can't control what my kids like and don't like, I can have a smidgen of influence, if I frame everything in a certain way.  In other words, it's all about the presentation. It's been tough to get the boys motivated to walk the track.  Gavin does awesome but Elliott and Emmett haven't really wanted anything to do with it for awhile now. One lap around the track is 1.51 miles. Trying to get them to make it…
