Couldn’t have asked for a better day

It was a pretty unusual anniversary for Lizze and I. The boys let us sleep in and my beautiful wife let me take a nice mid-morning nap. ☺ We had a quiet morning and it was nice. No one was fighting or causing trouble by pushing the others buttons. Everyone seemed content and that doesn't happen very often in a house with three kids on the Autism Spectrum. lol About mid-afternoon, we took the boys to my parents house and then went to visit Lizze's Dad at the hospital. We didn't stay long because he was exhausted, but it was nice to see him doing so well. ☺ After that, we ended up back at my parents house for the rest of the day. My Dad and the boys were…

If not for the kindness of others

I wanted to share this, in case you missed it in a previous post. It was mixed in with a bunch of others, and probably deserves its own post.  We haven't had a family picture taken in forever. While this isn't a professionally shot image, it's still special. The only reason we even have this is because of the kindness of a stranger.  I really like this picture and I'm grateful that the kind woman offered to take it for us. ☺

Sweet picture from our July 5th adventures

I know these are a couple of days late but I wanted to share them anyway. On July 5th, one of my focuses was wearing my kids out, by keeping them busy all day long. It was dark from a perfect day but while Lizze was in class, I took the boys to the indoor playground and let them play for awhile. They ended up joining in a game of tag with the other kids that were there. It felt so nice to see them having fun with other kids in a playground. After Lizze arrived home from class, we went to the Garden Center as a family. The boys went exploring, and Gavin found several painted rocks, that he promptly re-hid somewhere in the giant garden, for others to…

20 amazing pictures from our adventures in the creek

A few days ago, I took the family to a local park. The boys wanted to go hunting for salamanders in the creek, and that's exactly what we did. Everyone had a ton of fun, we caught lots of salamanders and gently released them back where we found them. Before releasing them, the boys got to spend a little time checking them out. One of them took a liking to Emmett's shirt.. ☺ Oddly enough, until last year, I didn't know salamanders were even living in my area. I guess now I know.. ☺ Below are a bunch of pictures of our trip. Simply click the image and the gallery will appear.. Enjoy and let me. Know what you think. [foogallery id="56634"]

The 45 minutes of #meltdown HELL

Lizze and I took the boys to the park tonight. We even got them to walk over a mile. That may not seem like much, but sometimes it's actually a major accomplishment.  Everyone did awesome while we were there, but we almost didn't make it there in the first place.  Emmett had a massive meltdown prior to actually leaving because he was freaked out over his shoes. He couldn't decide which pair was going to bother him less. This went on for so long that I almost gave up on going altogether.  It took forever to work through this one, because he was so upset. He wanted to go, and was even more upset because he couldn't go unless he made a decision.  We tried for close to 30-45 minutes…

Will this end the day on a positive note?

I think Lizze and I are going to end the day by taking the kids to the park for awhile. Elliott seems to be feeling better and wants to go, as does everyone else.  Elliott and Emmett will hunt Pokémon, while the rest of us walk the track.. We're all walking the track, but some are chasing Pokémon at the same time.   This will hopefully be a nice way to end the day on a positive note. So long as Emmett will wear something on his feet, we should be good to go.  In the morning, the boys will be going to their grandparents to spend the night. Even if things don't go well tonight, we just have to survive until noon tomorrow.. ☺

Read more about the article Things I do to manage my #Autism Parenting Stress
While we were at the park today, I spent some time taking pictures of the many flowers that are living there. The last time we were there, we saw an elderly couple working in the garden, and they did an amazing job. I wish my yard looked even a tiny fraction of how good this huge garden does. I'm feeling motived to work in the yard this summer, and make things look as nice as they possibly can. We're somewhat limited because of funding and where we live, but I'm all about making the best of what we have to work with...

Things I do to manage my #Autism Parenting Stress

One of the most important things an Autism parent can do is take care of themselves. I wanted to share one of the things I do in order to better manage my stress. While we were at the park today, I spent some time taking pictures of the many flowers that are living there. Taking pictures relaxes me and helps me to put things into perspective. We had such and awesome day today

We had a really awesome day. Aside from a few hiccups discussed in an earlier post, by all accounts we had a great day.  Lizze and I took the boys walking again today, right before dinner.  Unfortunately, we were competing with dusk and had to cut our walk short but I took all that into account when planning our turn around point. We ended up walking 2.02 miles and I didn't have to carry anyone. ☺  Emmett only had one my foot feels funny incident during the entire walk and that's awesome.   Our goal is to head out earlier in the day tomorrow and not so close to sundown. We'd like to do this as often as the weather allows because we're working on a healthier lifestyle and walking…
