This is going to be a very unusual week for us

We're looking at a really unusual week ahead of us. For the first time in forever, we only have one therapy session to be at this week and that's Emmett's Functional Independence Group at Akron Children's Hospital. Dr. Pattie is out of town all week and so we don't have anything with her. There's only been a few times over the last decade or so, that we haven't seen her at least once every week. This is going to be really weird for all of us. It's honestly going to be a quiet week and I'm planning on enjoying that because the summer is going to be ending for us, much sooner than expected..  More on that later. We have always managed to either have a shitload of appointments or…

The last three days have been chaotic and stressful

I having a really hard time getting back I to the swing of things after this weekend. I'm so tired but have to keep moving for now.   Having put the rebuild the front steps project behind me, I'm really hoping to get back writing on a regular basis because I was majorly gaining ground on this site and that's something I truly strive for.   The last three days or so have been pretty chaotic and stressful.  While we've gotten a great many things accomplished and visited out of town loved ones, it still took its toll.   As dumb as it may sound, when I don't have a chance to write, I have a much more difficult time coping with life.  There are a bunch of changes to…

It took four generations working together but we finally succeeded

I apologize for my absence this past weekend but we were undertaking what turned into a pretty big project.  We needed to remove our old prefab concrete steps and replace them with new ones. This wasn't an easy task but we worked on it all weekend. The final results speak for themselves.  Lizze and I couldn't be happier for more thankful. It's been a long time since I've spent this much time with my Dad and it was truly the highlight of the experience.  My Dad is so awesome and I honestly can't say enough about how grateful I'm and for all his help and guidance, not only for my whole life but for this project in particular. The steps turned out very well and I while it took a…

I pretty excited about today because I’m allowed to be

I'm pretty stoked about today because my Dad and I are going to be replacing the stairs that lead up to our front porch.  The stairs that are seen in the picture below, have been deemed hazardous by my insurance company and we will lose our homeowners if they aren't replaced immediately. We have to replace the stairs and the handrail that goes up and wraps around.  This shouldn't be too big of a project but the weather isn't supposed to be cooperating and that may prove to be challenging. I'm pretty excited about this for a couple of reasons. Not losing my homeowners is a pretty big thing but it will also significantly improve the front of the house. As much as I hate our house, I'm grateful to…

Hoping to end the week on a positive note

I woke up this morning, feeling like I hadn't slept at all.  The boys did pretty well last night, in the sense that they slept in their own beds and did so through the night.  They did however, get up exceptionally early. Aside from Gavin's IVIG infusion, we don't have anything scheduled for today. My hopes is that it will be a quiet day for all of us because it's been a really long week and I'd love to end things on a calm, relaxed and meltdown free note..

Today’s been a day filled with overstimulation and meltdowns

It's been a pretty chaotic day on my end.  We had an awesome day day yesterday but the kids are paying the price for it today and subsequently, so are we. The boys, namely Elliott and Emmett, have been so beyond hyper and overstimulated today, I've resigned to the fact that today is probably just going to be a wash. We've had a few smaller meltdowns today, which is to be expected after a jam packed day of excitement yesterday. Lizze and I have taken turns napping today because we are both exhausted.  It's actually worked out pretty well, in the sense that at least one of us is awake and semi-coherent. This has successfully prevented the kids from taking over the world.  Lol Anyway, it'll be bedtime soon and…

The crew from @vivintgivesback flew out to spend the day with the @the_autism_dad family and it was awesome

Today was amazing.  For those tardy to the party, the crew from Vivint Gives Back, flew all the way from Utah to spend the day with my family. There was a great deal of stress and anxiety leading up to this, simply because trying to get the house presentable can present many challenges.  I don't need to explain that to many of you because you face many of the same daily challenges we do. The team from Vivint arrived on time and our day was soon underway. To put things simply, they were here to film a documentary or sorts, featuring both myself and my family.  This was done for a few reasons, but the biggest and most important were to raise awareness for Autism, as well as for the…

The moment has finally arrived

The moment has almost arrived and I think we are finally ready for Vivint to come to our house.  I'm way more nervous that I probably should be and to be completely honest, I'm going on about 2 hours of sleep. Everyone is dressed and in a good mood.  That in and of itself is a massive blessing. I'll let you know of how it goes and we'll probably have lots of pictures to share.  Wish us luck.....  ☺
