Is there a really important cause within the autism and even disability community as a whole that is timely and impactful to a great many people? Okay, so this isn’t something I usually do, but there’s a video going around right now that really bothered me. I’m not going to play it because I don’t want to spread her hateful message, but in it, she mocks people who are about to lose their SNAP benefits on November 1st. She talks like they’re just irresponsible, that they should “get a job,” or that they should’ve saved their benefits from last month, as if it’s that easy. It’s disgusting. It’s been a long journey to get where I am today. It feels like I’m exhausted and overwhelmed on most days. I know many of you can probably relate. One thing I don’t talk about a tremendous amount is my personal life. I value privacy more as I get older and protecting the privacy of the people in my life, is a priority.
