A gentle reminder about Autism Awareness

Okay, folks, it's Autism Awareness Month, and there are a million ways to celebrate. Everyone is different, and raising awareness can take many forms. I've been very vocal about my feelings about this over the years. I feel it's so important that we focus on the people and less on the large organizations during the only time of year when people are paying closer attention. The truth is, you can raise awareness is countless ways. I'm a huge fan of sharing personal experience because it's a great way to help people form a more emotional connection and that helps them better relate. Some people screw in blue light bulbs, and that's okay too. Some people like to more subtly raise awareness year-round with things like Autism Awareness ribbons, magnets and…

Update: How I’m managing my #Depression

As many of you know, I've been warring with Depression for most of my life. I talk about managing Depression as an ongoing war because there will be many battles, some I'll win and some I won't. Recently, I decided that I needed to get more help in managing my Depression because I was significantly struggling in many areas of my life. I was working very hard to manage my Depression, but it just wasn't enough. One of the things I had been trying to do was manage my Depression as naturally as I can, meaning I wanted to limit medication use, if possible. You may recall my nightmarish withdrawal from Paxil last year. I was sick for almost six months after taking three months to taper off slowly. It…

This unfortunate animal cracker led to a very awkward conversation with my youngest

For starters, we're dealing with an unexpected change in routine this morning. School was canceled because so many people are sick. There is strep throat, another unknown viral thing but there are also several confirmed cases of flu in the school. I can't stress enough just how important it is to get your flu shot every year. People actually die from the flu so get it done. 😉 Anyway, Lizze and I were sitting in the living room this morning, contemplating what to do with our day when we heard a ton of commotion from the boys room. I assumed they were fighting again because that's sorta their default setting at times and they're both thrown off by there being no school. As I stopped what I were doing and…

My wife finally got her medical #marijuana card and here’s how it went

We had a really interesting day today and actually, it was quite positive. We made some major progress in our quest to find Lizze some relief from all that she suffers from. I mentioned in a sorta offhand way recently, that Lizze has been using CBD oil and is scheduled to be evaluated for a medical marijuana card. Medical marijuana has recently been legalized in the State of Ohio and since we've literally tried everything conventional to help her with her migraines, this was all we had left to try. The CBD oil has been helping but the goal is to have both options available in order to best ensure a better quality of life. Her appointment was yesterday and it went well. I'll let her go into the details…

We haven’t had a fully working stove for almost a decade

This is intended to be a very quick update to something I shared late last week. Just to get everyone on the same page quickly, I'll remind you what was going on. It's been the better part of a decade since we've had a fully working stove. The oven, along with two of the four burners hadn't worked in about ten years. With everything else we had going and with money being tight, it was just something we never were able replace. We have been using a toaster over, air fryer, microwave, crock pot and more recently a pressure cooker to work around our problem. It wasn't perfect but it worked. Anyway, for Christmas this year, my parents surprised us with a brand new gas range. We were able to…

How migraines and desperation led us to explore CBD products

If you’ve been reading our story for a while, you are probably aware of at least some of the problems we’re facing as a family. Most of the focus has been on the kids, especially Gavin. One of the things I haven’t spent a great deal of time lately is talking about some of the challenges my wife Lizze faces on a daily basis.  The those who don’t want to read to the end, I’ll cut to the chase. My feelings are hurt but whatever. 😉 This article is not intended to be medical advice. Always talk to your doctor before starting anything, including CBD products. I'm simply discussing why we’ve been exploring CBD products. We're hoping that Lizze can finally find some relief from a migraine she’s had for 7+ years…
