A Gavin Update: It’s fricking exhausting

Gavin's been spending more and more time, locked away in his room lately. Some of this time revolves around his tablet and some of it around missions. He's not really talking about his missions a whole lot anymore. The last time he said something about them, was a few days ago and it'd been awhile before that. It's difficult to really grasp exactly what's going on with Gavin because while he talks constantly, it's not usually about anything meaningful. He never talks much about how he feels but instead talks a great deal about the games on his tablet. In fact, I don't think he knows how to talk about anything else. After the race yesterday, my parents wanted to treat everyone to some ice cream. It was the five…

Rough Night

We all had a great day yesterday but it might have been a bit too exciting for Elliott. Elliott and Emmett were both bouncing off the walls last night and we had a terrible time settling them down. Bedtime was quite difficult because they were so overstimulated by all the excitement. It was so bad that Elliott never fell asleep last night. He tried and was on Melatonin but he was too amped up to shutdown. I was up with him until almost 4 AM but finally passed out shortly after. It's going to be a really long day because Elliott will likely have a rough day because he's beyond tired. Thankfully, he's in a decent mood. I suppose it's all about the little things today..

Here’s what we decided in regards to the boys running today

A few things have changed since my last post. (See here) We've found Elliott's pants, which is a good thing regardless, but it means he has something to wear to run in. Elliott has lots of pants but only one pair of wind pants cause he doesn't like wearing them. Anyway, the weather is still crappy but the boys are really motivated to push through this and frankly, I don't want to stand in their way. At this point in time, we look to arrive for the race at 1PM and meet everyone who's coming to cheer them on. One of the concerns we had when this race first came up was letting the boys run without one of us being there with them. There are a million things that…

The boys are running in their 1st race today

The boys will be participating in a kids run this afternoon. It's a little less than two miles but it's perfect for kids. My sister is going to run it with them and we will be there to cheer them on as they cross the finish line. This is just the first of at least two runs they're going to be doing between now and the end of the summer. The only thing that will interfere with this is if it rains and it's supposed to rain. As much as they want to do this, they hate getting wet even more.. 😁

We Came – We Saw – We Conquered

After all we went through to make it to this bloody movie today, it was worth it. The kids did great and sat mesmerized for the entire two hours and twenty minutes. Avengers: Infinity War was absolutely amazing. It was nonstop action from the very first scene and that helped to keep their attention. I won't talk about the movie other than to say that this isn't the last movie. I loved hearing the boys share their theories as to what happened, why it happened and what will happen. I don't happen to agree with their theories but I love being witness to their brilliant brains going to work.. ☺

How #Autism can complicate even the little things

What follows is an example of how complicated Autism can make things at times and lengths we must go to work through these complications.. The Autism Dad household is full of nerds. We love video games, science and especially Marvel Comics. It's only natural that we are drawn to the Marvel Universe films and we are.. This all took place on Thursday (yesterday). I thought it would be nice to surprise the kids by taking them to see the new Avengers movie on opening day. I went ahead and ordered tickets for Friday at 3:45 PM. On the way home from school yesterday, it occurred to me that surpring them may not be the best idea, especially when it comes to Emmett. With that in mind, I told the kids…

Gavin’s is struggling and it’s heartbreaking

Gavin's having a rough morning. He really struggled to setup his IVIG infusion today. At one point, he ran into what he perceived to be a problem and couldn't work through it. Part of prepping his IVIG infusion, requires him to draw up solution into a giant syringe. It's important to remove any air bubbles from the solution because it will interfere with the infusion process. Normally, he pushes the bubbles out before he removed the needle from the syringe but today he removed the needle first. He got upset with himself and was going to just leave the bubbles there because he'd already disposed of the needle. I told him he can't leave the bubbles, so he proceeded to open a second needle and I had to stop him…
