I came across this little ladybug the other day. It got me thinking. What are male ladybugs called?
They were called Our Lady’s Bird or Lady Beetles in Britain. The Lady was the Virgin Mary. The name became ladybug in the US. So the “lady” part is about who or what the bug is named for, not its gender. 🙂
