2 hours into her 1st headache infusion at the @clevelandclinic

Lizze has been hooked up to the IV for about two hours now. There's no room for me to sit with her so I'm hanging out in the lobby until she's done. I'm allowed to walk back and check on her but I have to be very, very quiet because everyone in there is dealing with migraines. I'm allowed to bring her food but there are restrictions. Nothing can have a smell or make noise. Many people with migraines can be triggered by certain smells and so they are very careful what's brought into the room. Everyone in this room, including my wife, is resting in recliners and separated by a thin curtain. The lights are low and it's so quiet, you could probably hear a pin drop, literally. The…

I was an awful parent (by my standards) this morning and I feel horrible

It was a very chaotic morning and I regret a great deal of it. We were trying to get everyone out the door and nothing was going right. The boys were being kids and I simply had no patience. Elliott is at that age where we aren't sure how much is Autism, anxiety and depression or how much is normal teens stuff. All I know is that I needed cooperation and he was not being super cooperative. He would dig his heels in and I just wasn't having it this morning. Rather than continue to offer him patience and guidence, I yelled. I wasn't really yelling at him but rather at the situation and that was just as bad. I'm not talking simply raising my voice but actually yelling at…

Please keep my wife in your thoughts and prayers as she heads to the @ClevelandClinic for most of the week

This is going to be an absolutely crazy week. In fact, it's going to be one of the most challenging weeks we've had in recent memory and we're going to need all the help we can get. Thankfully we have that help in the form of our parents, on both sides. I meant to get to this on Friday but I didn't. Lizze was approved for here headache infusions and they begin in the morning. We will be making the sometimes three hour round trip, four days in a row this week. This makes things very complicated because the boys need to get to and from school each day. We also have Gavin who wouldn't do well on these trips. Thankfully, Gavin will be staying with Lizze's parents until Thursday…

Praying the @clevelandclinic can help my wife

Lizze and I made it to the Cleveland Clinic's Neurological Center for Pain. We actually made it 10 minutes early and considering traffic, that's a miracle. Lizze and I have set a goal to find at least some answers but also some relief from her constant, crippling pain. We need to get the medication situation straightened out immediately. Wish us luck but also know that she's in good hands with the Cleveland Clinic.. ☺

Helplessly watching as my wife suffers is absolutely awful

Lizze is in rough shape today. This migraine is relentless and you can see that it's taking its toll on her. She's absolutely miserable and there's nothing I can do to help her. It's so bad she can't be touched. There's not anything I can do but get her to her appointment today. The pain makes her sick and unable to eat or sleep. I'm hoping that we can find something that will help her get some relief. We have an hour plus drive to Cleveland today and she's not in a place to endure that. Unfortunately, it's the only option and it's important that we get there. I fucking hate that I can't help her with this. No one should have to live in this much pain and if…

A quick update before I try to go to sleep

It's been a crazy long day and tomorrow is going to be even worse, at least for me. I'll talk about that in the coming days. For now, I wanted to let you guys know how Gavin's MRI went. Gavin is typically super cooperative but can still be difficult to work with. He doesn't do a great deal of thinking for himself and he struggles with following directions, mostly because he simply gets confused. By all accounts, he did amazing this afternoon at Akron General. His MRI took about an hour or so and I wasn't allowed in the observation room or wherever the techs sat during the MRI. I had a chair in the hallway and I waited outside the door. It was fine because I was there if…

Aside from learning he’s having chest pain, here’s how Gavin’s appointment with #Cardiology went

First of all, I appreciate your patience with this update. I'm exhausted and just didn't have the energy to write earlier. I'm going to try and keep this brief because I want to be in bed before midnight. Gavin had appointments at the Cleveland Clinic today. His first appointment was for an EKG and the second was with his new cardiologist, immediately after. While we didn't hear the results of the EKG, from what I saw, it looked normal. I was trained to read EKG's as a medic. It's been awhile since I've read a 12 lead but nothing stuck out to me and I'm sure if something was wrong, we would have been told. His actual appointment with his new cardiologist went really well. She's really nice and was…
