General Update: The Good News and The Bad News

I've been spread pretty thin this week and I haven't written much at all. I'm trying to refocus a bit and get back into the habit but frankly, it seems overwhelming sometimes. I'll do my best to get back on track.  There are a few things that I'd like to update you on.  First and foremost, Elliott finally was able to fall asleep at his normal bedtime hour. The last four or five nights, he's really struggled to fall asleep and wasn't able to until well after midnight. Last night however, he never fell asleep and that's not a good thing.  I'm not sure what was different about tonight but he fell asleep without a problem. Lizze and I are both grateful for that.  Emmett's been Emmett. Shoes and socks…

General update and a new problem

We had a pretty good day blah blah blah... Check out the video of me talking to the boys about their day. I'm not trying to rush this but I want to get to something else before I'm too tired to finish this post.  https://youtu.be/wYW3c2QIBrk Moving on, we're having a new issue as of late and tonight makes the fourth night in a row. This issue is in regards to Elliott's new found inability to fall asleep at night.  This has been a very recent turn of events. He's had issues falling asleep on and off but this seems different. He's not able to fall asleep until well after midnight.  I'm not sure what's going on or what's changed but somethings definitely going on.  Lizze and I are sleeping in…

Why I ask about my kids day at school before we get home

I was able to enjoy some me time again today, while waiting for Elliott to be dismissed from school. I played some ambient noise in the car and caught up on the news.  I didn't get much writing done but I did get to sorta zone out for a little bit.  Elliott is usually one of the first kids out the door when the school day ends and I'm always the first in line for parent pickup.  One of the things I always do is ask the boys about their day before we get home. I'm looking for how their day went, did they experience any problems and if they enjoyed their lunch.  On Monday's, I ask about homework and things like that.  I prefer to do this before we…

Why this Dad is sleeping on the couch tonight

Let me tell you about my favorite way to start the new week. By favorite I mean the absolutely worst way to begin the week cause it sets a tone that seems to follow me through the rest of it.  Picture this, the boys are in bed, and I just hit the Walgreens to pick up a gallon of milk and some ice cream. It's Sunday and that means Lizze and I plan on being parked on the couch, killing time until Last Week Tonight begins at 11pm. This is our Sunday ritual and the way we say goodbye to the weekend and hello to the week ahead.  Unfortunately, on this Sunday, Mr. Elliott decides he's not going to be able to fall asleep. Did he plan this out because…

UPDATE: We met with Elliott’s pediatrician and it didn’t go as planned

Last Thursday, we took Elliott to the pediatrician because she's taking over his ADHD management. We were also there to discuss Elliott's headaches and maybe get a referral to a specialist.  The ADHD part of the appointment went really well. There's not a great deal to managing ADHD aside from the medication and follow ups every three months.  When we began talking about his headaches or migraines, I asked if this could be related to dehydration. Elliott doesn't drink nearly enough water and before we go any further down this road, we're going to focus on his hydration and see if that helps.  Elliott doesn't drink much of anything during the day and it's very difficult get him to drink water.  The doctor explained to Elliott that we are absolutely…

I’m too tired to talk but here are the pictures I promised

It's been a really long day and I'm not in the best place right now. Either than force anything tonight, I thought I would share a picture I've been promising but haven't yet delivered on.  The main reason for the picture is to show what Elliott looks like after his haircut from a week or so ago. They took off at least four or five inches and it took him a little bit to adjust before he was willing to pose for a picture.  The last picture here is of Gavin. He actually got a haircut today because it was far to long and if we don't keep in short, we run into hygiene issues.  I happen to think he looks really good and I'm not just saying that because…

We faced several challenges this morning

I was able to nab a whopping four hours of sleep last night. Surprisingly though, I don't feel too bad today.  We started off the morning convincing Elliott that he had to go to school, even in he didn't like his hair. He actually took more work this morning than Emmett did in regards to putting his shoes and socks on.  When we arrived at the school, I walked the boys in because I promised Elliott I would let the school know he was upset about his hair.  We ended up speaking with the principal about it and he said that he really liked Elliott's haircut but that he would let the teachers know that he's stressed out over it.  When I left the boys and headed home, Elliott was…

Can #ADHD make it difficult for kids to fall asleep?

It's now pushing midnight as I'm writing this and Mr. Elliott is still awake. He's having the hardest time falling asleep lately. Emmett was the one struggling for so long and now that he's doing better, Elliott is trading places with him. I'm not sure what this is all about, or how to help him through this. Tonight is the first time that I'm going to leave him to his own devices, rather than take him downstairs to sleep on the couch. By own devices I mean, he has to stay on the second floor and not wake up his brother. He's all snuggled up in his bed, watching something on Netflix. This is typically what I would do if we camped out in the living room. He knows Lizze…
