I really screwed the pooch on this one but it could have been worse

This is going to be one of those days where I know going into it that it's gonna suck a big one. This time it's because I screwed up again.  When I had the boys at the immunologist/allergist, earlier this year, follow-up appointments had been made that somehow never made it into the calendar.  I'm very meticulous with managing my calendar and everything syncs with my Google Apps account across all my devices but the ball was dropped somewhere along the way.  Yesterday I received a phone call confirming the boys appointment for today. I didn't even have a clue we were supposed to be there today and that's really frustrating for me.   For whatever reason, the appointments were no longer in my calendar, so I didn't plan for…

Today’s Victory: Fantastic News About Emmett

In the spirit of trying to remain focused on the positive, I have some really good news to share this afternoon.  While at Akron Children's Hospital this afternoon for Gavin's Speech Therapy, I inquired about Emmett's return to Occupational Therapy. The news I received was a really positive boost to my afternoon.  Emmett's therapist has returned from maternity leave and today was her first day back.   We sat down and discussed what would be best for Emmett. Basically, we're going to stick to the same schedule and time slot. Rather than every other Tuesday though, we're moving to the first and third Tuesday of each month. Akron Children's Hospital as a whole is moving to this to avoid months with a fifth week from throwing everything off.   Emmett…

I love the sound of meltdowns in the morning :(

Emmett woke up in a really, really, really bad mood. I can't even talk to him without being screamed at.  As a result of finding myself overwhelmed already, I've put myself in a brief timeout and I'm trying not to let all of this unpleasantness, set the tone for the day.  I love waking up after not getting enough sleep and getting screamed at all morning by my youngest for reasons that known only to him.  😔

Someone’s been sleeping in my bed

When Lizze and I went to bed tonight, this is what greeted us. 💙 I knew Emmett was there already because I sang him to sleep, after he tried for almost two hours to go to sleep on his own.   When he came down stairs, we were surprised because he'd been up there for a couple hours and we figured he'd fallen asleep because we hadn't heard from him.  I walked him back upstairs and he curled up next to me in our bed. We played some music and I sang poorly to him.   He was asleep within a few minutes.  I wish I knew what was going on with him but he's just having the hardest time falling asleep in his bed.   On the positive side,…

We had to take Emmett to the doctor on Friday

I realize this is a bit late but life has had me otherwise occupied. Better late than never.  Thursday night, Emmett decided to clean out his ears, using q-tips we had thought were out of reach. He ended us hurting himself and so we got him into the pediatrician the next morning.  He wasn't seriously hurt but we needed to make sure he was okay.  As it turns out, he actually scratched the inside of his ear canal. Nothing too bad but painful nonetheless. The other thing he did was pack the wax in his ears, all the way back toward his eardrum. Emmett was checked out by the doctor and she found the scratch. She also found that his ears were completely blocked and she couldn't see his eardrum.…

What happens when you have not one but two IEP meetings in a row?

Putting aside all of the heartbreaking events from the first part of this week, Lizze and I had to focus our attention elsewhere today. Unfortunately, it wasn't anything super fun.  We spent the late morning, early afternoon knee deep in IEP meetings. You heard me right. Meetings,  as in more than one.  O_o It's not as bad as it sounds. IEP meetings at my kids school are a breeze compared to our experience with the public school system. There's no such thing as a fun IEP meeting. Just like there's no such thing as a fun root canal.  That said, I don't really remember having too much trouble with IEP meetings at this school over the last decade.    Today wasn't any different, aside from doubling up on everything to…
