The 11 year old I am not sleeping at night

It was a rough night. I don't feel like I got much sleep at all and there's an eleven year old reason for that. I mentioned this in the previous post as well. Mr. Emmett is not doing well at night. Between bad dreams and taking up the entire width of my king size bed, sleep is difficult to find. I was able to grab a picture last night and it helps to put this into perspective. 😂

We spent the morning with @AkronChildrens behavioral health

We just got home from Emmett's appointment at Akron Children's Hospital a little while ago and Emmett's appointment went really well. There were no major changes to his medications for right now. We feel as though there is simply too much going on at the moment to judge whether or not he needs a different medication regime. While I was checking him in, he spent some time with a service dog. It was a positive experience for him and he's still talking about it. Much of the appointment was simply taking a detailed history and trying to get mett to open up about what he's going through. There was focus on two main areas of trauma in his life. The first being all the behavioral issues that Gavin experienced when…

How @AkronChildrens helped me protect my youngest son today

For the most part, our morning has gone on without too many issues, and any issues that we did have were quickly overcome. That's a pretty good feeling. I dropped Elliott off at school before taking Emmett to get some shots and Gavin to flget his blood work. We headed to Akron Children's Hospital new North Canton office for a nurse only appointment. He was incredibly brave, especially for an anxious kid who's constantly worrying about everything. He did awesomely and I couldn't possibly be any prouder. ☺ ♥ Today he received his Meningitis and Tetanus vaccines. That amounted to one in each arm and he didn't feel either of them. Our nurse at Akron Children's Hospital was fantastic and helped Emmett feel comfortable. The process was quick and painless.…

Things didn’t go so well at school

I know in an earlier post, I was optimistic about Elliott making it through the day at school. Here's the background on that. Unfortunately, Elliott left school very upset this afternoon. He wanted to come home but didn't speak up because he didn't want to disrupt his class. I'm not sure what that's all about. When I called the school after dropping him off, and convincing him to stay in the morning, it was a no news is good news kinda thing.. Elliott and Emmett were both still in class and they hadn't asked to go home. If they had, their teachers would have immediately sent them to the office so they could call me. Emmett did fine but as I said, Elliott was very upset. I don't know what…

I’m feeling a little better about today

I know we had a rough morning because I was there. That said, I'm feeling a little better about things because I'm seeing some positives. First of all, Gavin's IVIG infusion went very well. He's struggling to do it himself, and for right now, I'm not going to push him. It's easier if I do it for him, at least for the time being. There was no leaking today and I believe it took less than an hour to complete. By comparison, last Friday's infusion took over four hours. This is definitely a positive thing. Second, I called the school to check on the boys, and they seem to be doing okay. Both boys have been in their respective classrooms, and there's been no contact with the office, meaning the…

We’ve had an absolutely heartbreaking morning

I've mentioned many times in regards to my wife leaving that the kids and I are going to have good days and we're going to have bad days. Over the last couple of weeks, we've been lucky enough to have more good days than bad. Unfortunately, today is a bad one. Our morning started out well, and then it very quickly fell apart. While getting ready for school, Emmett had a very emotional breakdown and became inconsolable. He screamed things about how we're a broken family and how other families are happy and having fun, while we're traumatized. Those are his words. He said a few other things but you get the point. He's demanding answers to things that only his mom can answer, but probably won't and rightfully so.…

I want to share something positive from yesterday

I forgot to share a really positive moment from yesterday. My brain isn't firing on all cylinders at the moment. So please forgive me. Mr. Emmett really, really, really likes watching Bob's Burgers. I enjoy Bob's Burgers as well but not so much that I can watch it nonstop. I was trying to get Emmett to unplug yesterday and he did, but he spent the entire time stressing out because he couldn't figure out what he wanted to do. Nothing I suggested sounded good to him. He became very, very anxious. Emmett is a big snuggler and I've never been one to shy away from snuggles, so I had an idea.. Maybe he would want to snuggle while watching Bob's Burgers. That would sorta be the best of both worlds.…

We take #vaccines VERY seriously but had to play catch-up today with our youngest and here’s why

I'm going to focus on the positive tonight. There was plenty of things that didn't go right, but the ones that did, matter more in this very moment. I mentioned earlier that Emmett had an appointment with his pediatrician today. It was a combination med check; well check and physical. We needed to touch base in regards to his ADHD and Depression medications before his care transfers to the behavioral health clinic at the main Akron Children's Hospital campus. He also needed his 11-year check-up and physical. Part of that included discussing vaccines. Emmett is the only one of our three kids who's technically behind on his vaccines. Emmett has a rare fever disorder and has had it since he was about a year old. His symptoms have evolved over…
