Can I just go back to bed, it’s already a shitty day

It's been a long, restless night. Elliott was awake until well after 1 am, while Emmett woke up with nightmares at some point and climbed into bed with us. Both the boys are not feeling well either at this point. They know their great grandmother went into the hospital last night but they haven't heard from us that she's passed. I think they suspect this though, hence the not sleeping, nightmares and feeling sick. Maybe we should have just been upfront and honest with them about the whole thing? When we knew what the outcome was going to be, it was very late and we just wanted to get the kids home to off to bed. I don't know. Lizze and I barely slept. My head is pounding and Lizze…

Please send your thoughts and prayers

On Tuesday evening, Lizze's grandmother passed away tonight. This was very sudden and it's been a difficult evening for everyone. 😔 If you could please send you thoughts and prayers to Lizze and her family, they could really use it. We haven't figured out what we're going to tell the boys yet but I think we're going to wait until after school. They have some fun activities planned and will be wearing their Halloween costumes to school. We want them to have that and we'll figure out what to tell them while their gone. I hate writing these posts but I also know that we could use the thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. Thank you all so much, I really appreciate it.

Managing #anxiety and #panicattacks can be extremely challenging

It's been a pretty decent day thus far. I didn't sleep very well last night but I took a short nap this morning and feel much better. The boys got off to school without any trouble and Lizze had her first of two doctors appointments. There was about a 30 minute break between appointments and they were on opposite ends of town. Her last appointment went well but on the way home, she was hit with a panic attack. Lizze has always battled anxiety and panic attacks are par for the course. Rather than go straight home and likely get worse, we opted instead to hit the park, go for a walk and take pictures of Fall. Lizze was getting really nauseous and I figured that a physical outlet might…

When your kid is talking about “master bait” and their teacher hears something else entirely

Funny story. I picked up the boys from school and both were in good moods. That's always a good thing. I have to specifically ask them if anything happened that they need to talk about because otherwise, they will rarely raise any concerns on their own. Elliott explained that he had gotten in trouble at school today. He said it was a misunderstanding but he doesn't understand why. He was in line, waiting for people to finish changing after martial arts class today at school. He used the opportunity to talk with one of his friends about a popular game they both play. Elliott was asking his friend for advice on how to battle a boss he was struggling with in the game. His friend suggested that he use master…

A better tone for the day

The boys got off to school and seemed to both be in better, if not good places. Lizze and Gavin joined me for a 1 mile morning walk, which is really good for both of them. I'm grab a second 3 mile walk before picking the boys up from school today. At the moment, we're waiting for Gavin to come out from having his blood drawn. For those who are unaware, Gavin has blood work every week and a half in order to refill on the medications he's on to manage his schizophrenia. It's incredibly tightly controlled and requires a CBC prior to his next 2 week supply. Anyway, I have a job to do later on today that is both an amazing cause and helping to put food on…

The Monday after a holiday can be rough for an #Autism

The Monday after a holiday is always a rough one, especially for an Autism family. It's tough to get everyone moving because they're still overstimulated from all the weekend excitement. Thus far, some of us overslept but we are all moving in the right direction. Emmett's definitely on edge and doesn't really want anyone talking to him. He screams when spoken to and that makes communication challenging this morning. He'll be fine at school but we still have to survive until then. Lol The other thing about mornings like this, is it can set the tone for the day and not in a good way. For that matter, it can set the tone for the week as well because it's a Monday. I'm going to drop the kids off at…
