I want to make our home more comfortable

One of the things on my agenda for life after the trip is reclaiming the house and making better use of it. We desperately need to move but that’s not in the cards at the moment.

The biggest thing we need to do is get the office put back together. The challenging part of that is trying to locate a leak that we have not been able to find for many years. Even after having the entire roof replaced, it still leaks. I’m really frustrated because I’ve repaired the ceiling quite a few times and a few years later, it leaks again. I need to find a good contractor whose adept at troubleshooting and repairing problem leaks. They will need to be bonded through some place like BondsExpress.com.

I’m about ready to install in a Calhoun Super Structure over the house and forget about it. Not really, but one can dream.

Assuming I get the leak located and repaired, I need to get a few pieces of furniture for the office. I need a desk and some new lighting. I also want to get a really comfortable chair to record my podcast from, like SunPan Occasional Chairs. They look super comfortable and I could easily setup a mic and my recording equiptment around it. That would be amazing.

Something unrelated to my office but still something I’d like to do is see if our chimney is in decent shape. I have a gas fireplace in our living room but it’s ventless. I need to see if that can be addressed. I’d probably look at something like TheChimneyScientist.com and see if they can provide some advice.

The other thing I’ve always wanted to do was close off our open staircase. While we’ve not had any kids topple over the side, thank God, we have had the cats take the turn too fast and go flying off the side of the landing.

I’ve often wondered about those glass handrailings that I’ve seen at the Cleveland Clinic that keeps people safe without having to completely close the opening off. Basically, it’s like a glass wall. Anyway, if you’ve no idea what I’m talking about, check out https://glassrailings.ca.

We can’t move right now and I don’t want to sink a great deal of money into this house but there are somethings that would make like a little more comfortable. I love the idea of sitting in the living room at night, with the lit with the glow of a fire in the fire place. At the same time, being able to have a place to work and escape would be amazing as well. The office would be our man cave and it would do us all some good.
