He lacks commonsense and that’s why this happened

She had him pull a new set of tubing and ensured he didn’t do the same thing again.

I worry now because I’m wondering how many times this has happened before and we didn’t know about it. How many times did he pull supplies out of the trash and use them anyway?

That’s crazy dangerous and I don’t know what he’s thinking. Clearly he’s not problem-solving this in an appropriate way. You can’t throw sterile supplies into the trash, later realize it, pull the no longer sterile supplies back out of the trash and use them as though they were still sterile.

That’s clearly a problem and just the fact that he tried to do this today, illustrates just how difficult a job we have with Gavin.

To most people, not trying to use the supplies after pulling them out of the trash would be commonsense. Unfortunately, Gavin doesn’t possess commonsense and that has proven to be very problematic on many occasions.

He ended up using a new set of tubing but now we’re short and will have to order a new one. I’m not sure how much they cost but I can’t imagine it’s more than $10.

Things like this are very frustrating and the reality is that Gavin probably didn’t learn anything from this. That said, we’ve learned that we have to keep a much closer eye on him going forward and that will apply to multiple areas of his life.

Poor Gavin. So many of the things you talk about remind me of my dad before he died. He just got more and more confused over the strangest things. It wasn’t dementia but his illness and treatments and medications all combined to make him so easily confused. It was hard to watch. I’m sorry you have to see it with Gavin. No parent deserves a sick child.
